As a true winter destination, Sisters can be one of the coldest spots in Central Oregon. But don’t let the chill keep you from chasing a winter thrill – the area has a variety of seasonal activities designed to fill you with warmth and wonder. From steaming hot springs to sweat-inducing slopes, here are our top activities to keep you warm in a Sisters, Oregon winter.

Skiing. Sliding down a snow-covered slope may seem like the wrong way to warm up this winter, but you’re sure to break a sweat as you shred the slopes at HooDoo Ski Area. Their courses range from fun to fierce, allowing skiers of all skill levels to find a run that gets your blood pumping and your muscles burning. You’ll be having too much fun to freeze!

Winter Carriage Rides. Enjoy an authentic winter treat at Black Butte Ranch, where your group can soak in the fresh air and winter scenery from the comfort of a cozy horse-drawn carriage. Dress in layers and bring a blanket to enjoy a beautiful ride that warms your heart!

Soak in a Hot Spring. Nothing chases away the cold like soaking in a gorgeous geothermal hot spring. If you’re up for a pre-soak hike, try making the trek to Terwilliger Hot Springs in the Willamette National Forest. You can also find a fun and family-friendly soak at Belknap Hot Springs, a popular resort where mineral pools are kept at a steamy 102 degrees.

Ice Skating. Ice skating is a great way to turn those frigid winter temps into tons of family fun. Redmond’s downtown rink is open to the public and offers a full day of outdoor skating for just $1.25 per person. You can also try a new spin on ice skating at Seventh Mountain Resort, where outdoor night-skating includes a cool laser light show as you skate under the stars.

Savor a Warm Cup of Coffee. Chase away the winter chill with a cup of warm goodness at one of Sisters’ superb coffee shops. From craft coffees to hot chocolate to teas and more, you’ll find plenty of ways to cozy up with a cup of winter cheer. Sisters Bakery is a local staple that serves exceptional espresso and fresh drip coffee as well as warm and flaky pastries. Sisters Coffee Company’s flagship cafe offers a full menu of fresh in-house roasts, espressos, lattes, and more. Fika Sisters Coffeehouse is a bit off the beaten path but offers a warm and welcoming space where guests are encouraged to sit, sip, and connect with friends over a strong cup of Swedish coffee.

Cozy up in front of a fire. A roaring fire provides a perfect place to cozy up on those cold winter nights. A property like our three-bedroom Jacob’s Ladder home offers a luxurious wood-burning fireplace set in a spacious living room with lovely views of the winter woods.  If you prefer to stay immersed in the scenery, our Birch and Pine private home has an outstanding outdoor space that includes a stone fire pit as well as a steamy hot tub, convenient  propane heaters, and a full outdoor kitchen.
