Where is Sisters, Oregon?

Sisters is located in the eastern foot of the Cascade Mountains in Deschutes County, Oregon. The city’s central location makes it a perfect homebase for exploring the area, with quick day trips to Bend (22 miles), Redmond (20 miles), Terrebonne (31 miles) and more.

Getting to Sisters by Air 

The nearest commercial airport to Sisters is the Redmond Municipal Airport (RDM), located about 20 miles from the center of town. RDM is served by several airlines that offer daily service to major cities like Portland, Seattle, Los Angeles, Denver, and San Francisco. Once you land at RDM, you can rent a car or arrange for a shuttle service to take you to Sisters.

Another option is to fly into the Portland International Airport (PDX), which is about 160 miles to the Northwest of Sisters. PDX is the largest airport in the region and offers direct flights to cities all over the world. The airport boasts 11 rental car agencies and multiple shuttles to help you make the three-hour drive to Sisters. 

Sisters Eagle Airport is a public airport located one mile north of the city. The facility isn’t served by commercial airlines, but it does offer runway access and hangar rentals to private pilots.

Getting to Sisters by Car

If you’re driving to Sisters, you can take several routes depending on your starting point. The town is accessible via highways 20, 26, 126, and 242. The most common route is to take US-20 from the west or US-97 from the north or south. Both of these highways provide easy access to Sisters and offer stunning views of the surrounding mountains and forests. 

Here are some estimated drive times and distances from larger cities in the area:

  • Portland, Oregon: about 3 hours via US-26 E (165 miles)
  • Seattle, Washington: about 6 hours via I-5 S and US-26 E (330 miles)
  • Boise, Idaho: 5 hours and 45 minutes via US-20 W (340 miles)
  • Bend, Oregon: about 30 minutes via US-20 W (22.5 miles)
  • Remond, Oregon: about 20 minutes via OR-126 W (19.5 miles)
